Specific applications may have the need to run a particular version of Internet Explorer 11, especially if only one is certified to work with a particular software, for example desktop integration ones. If you have the need to use a specific version of Internet Explorer 11, for example the 11.0.9600.17420, but on the machine are you using at the moment there is another one, not necessarily newer, like the 11.0.14, you may encounter big issues…

In particular, after you have uninstalled IE11 from Programs & Features, View Installed Updates, and rolled back to IE8 or 9, you may think that you have succeed in our mission. However, you do not. In fact, if you try to upgrade again to any version of IE11, you will soon realize that the installation will fail, and the only thing you get is a link to the troubleshooter for the installation of Internet Explorer, which is pretty useless.

This is what you have to do to uninstall Internet Explorer 11 on a Windows 7 machine and reinstall it successfully:

• Go to Control Panel, Programs & Features, View Installed Updates, uninstall Internet Explorer 11

• Reboot

• Download and run the “System Update Readiness Tool for Windows 7 for x64-based Systems (KB947821) [October 2014]”

• Reboot (just to be sure)

• Install whatever version of Internet Explorer 11 you want

• Done!
